Easy bass tabs.
Blues guitar yesterday and now today easy bass tabs. Bass has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Don't get get me wrong, it sounds so fantastic but there must be a real art to it.
Not much on the web either. Found this:- Bass tabs for Eagles: Take it easy . I see "for guitar tabs, bass tabs and chords. We also have a review section with Eagles CD reviews". If your into this sort of thing that could be quite helpful I suppose.
Popping over to Yuotube to see if I can find any tasty bits there.

Blues guitar lessons.
Ok,this venturing out of the easy guitar world and into the world of making real music. This a world of licks,slides finding the blues notes and so much more as they say. How to play the guitar.
Fine,its a bit like riding a bike. You know a some point you will come off and it looks a bit scary at first but once you know how,you just do it without thinking. The hard part is getting going and understanding that that using musical instruments need time to practice.
An acoustic guitar is natural starting point.Once you have the basics off,you may want to move on to a bass guitar or the electric guitar like a Telecaster guitar. There is even an electric bass guitar or for those people who are left handed,left handed guitars.
There would appear to be 3 basic learning methods.
Playing by ear. For those natually talented people of the world. That's definately not me by the way,I had to plug away for ages before anyone reconized anything I played.
Picking up a few chords or an easy riff and keep adding to your skill that way. Its supprising just how many start out like that. I did.
The full tuitional route. Either a musical teacher or a course of some kind.

What ever route the beginner guitar player takes,they can only improve as they progress with time. I found this on Youtube which could be of interest:-

Free guitar lessons are they for real?
I thought I might continue on the other days theme about guitar lessons and such.
They do exist but are they any good?
Well yes and no.
Yes in a way because, like anything you want to do or are interested in,every scrap of information, tip or tick you can find will expand your knowledge on that subject. Imagine the scene, its your first guitar and you want to play that bit of the song on your own instrument...like NOW! Not next week but now! You have no money to buy the big guitar course that your friend recommend, so you trawl around and find something related to your needs. It may be crap but you don't give a hoot about that.

No. If you really have your little heart set on getting good at guitar playing,well is nothing that a well laid out course can beat. Its just the way to go.
My personal favorite is the old Jamorama but there are many other excellent courses out there.

Online Guitar Lessons. Sure these have a place in the great scheme of things I suppose.
Anyone wanting to be an overnight guitar hero could always find stuff on lets say 'beginner electric guitar'. They see the words, a picture forms in their mind. Fame,fortune and all the cool chicks or guys they could ever want to be near.
Ooh,I rather like the sound of that. Yet there is always a down side. Massive demands by the tax man, having a small army of people to look after you and not be able to walk down the high street without the mob tearing you shirt off!
I love the quite life anyway maybe just strumming a few guitar chords now and then.

Learn to play the guitar in next to no time.
That was a comment I herd while having a look around a discount guitar shop. I thought well only a really gifted guitar hero could do that.
I live in the real world, where learn and practice and practice some more, are the only real way to make a guitar sing out.

I asked the chap how a beginner could start out from cold. "Oh", he said,"how hard can it be?" You don't play guitar then I asked."No but so many people do,it must be easy."

I had thought about enlightening this Dumbo but thought better of it.

Hi, Just thought I'd let you know I've updated my Guitar tabs for beginners page.
After several requests from people reading the page,I have included a complete song to have a go at.
The song chosen was "Yesterday" by Paul McCartney.
Seemed like a fair choice.

Hi,thought I might just pop this up as I seem to be getting some interest on my Guitar tabs for beginners page over on the old Hub pages.
The last question I had was about 'Pull off's' and 'Hammer on's'.
These are ways in which the guitarist applies a little pressure to the sting and keeps it there for a few moments - 'Hammer on's'.
'Pull off's'- are really the reverse where the player pulls away from the string.

There are a number of things you can do here. At the bottom of the page select the insturment you wish to hear. Then select chords from the various drop down boxes. Press the play button.
You can build a tune by adding your selection to the little pad.
Make up your own tunes.

So, just having a breeze around and I found myself reading an article by Paul Hackett over on Guitar noise, titled Easy Guitar Riffs.

Paul picks out several rather good ones.

Yes,yes OK. This must rate as one of the most requested songs at my old college,many many years ago.
Get that crap off and play Freebird !
That is Lynard Skynrd - Freebird you understand!
It was so emotionally powerful that a number of 'coming togethers',happened because of this track.
You understand it was not between me and the lads but between them and the girls.
Hair pulling,drink throwing and shouting usually resulted when I put it on and hid round the corner. This was an agricultural college and some of girls were real beefcakes who were no too bothered if the DJ lived to see another day dawn or not.
The girls would corner me and demand Wako Jacko or Boggie nights or the most recent handbag song,while the lads made air guitar performances with a pint in one hand which usually meant beer on the dance floor and bodies falling over. I remember it well.
Well I remember the escape routine anyway.

And its not an easy guitar tab but what the heck.

The Star-Spangled Banner

Hi came across this form of guitar notation or easy guitar tabs,while browsing.
Yet another way to do it. Humm. link

The string with the highest pitch on your guitar is usually an E and is called the first string. This is the string nearest your feet when you play. Here is an example of the guitar tab notation i mentioned:

The first number indicates the fret. The second number tells you which string to play. The previous example tells you to press down a finger on the third fret of the second string and play the note.

And then this how The Star-Spangled Banner is represented. :-

You will play The Star-Spangled Banner in the key of C-major. Here is the first part of the melody in guitar tab notation:

This part is now repeated once.

Which left hand fingers should you use to play the melody?

You can of course use your first finger for all the notes but the best way to use your left hand fingers is to play the notes on the first fret with your first finger, the notes on the second fret with your middle finger and the notes on the third fret with your ring finger.

It might be difficult at first to use your lefthand fingers the way I described but if you use these fingerings it will actually be easier for you to find the right notes on your guitar. You don’t even have to look at your fingers to find the right fret if you get used to this way of playing.

It’s time for the next part of the melody with guitar tab:

The length of the notes is not indicated with this type of guitar tab notation. I guess you will find out how to play the notes by your self if you sing the melody. On my site I often use guitar tab notation with common guitar sheet notation which indicates the length of the notes.

Now you have tested to play The Star-Spangled Banner with guitar tab notation. I would suggest that you learn the melody by heart by playing one line at a time until you know the whole song!

After I posted in the blog I found this. link
Rather good I thought.
A bit further down that page is a rather neat 1,2,3 of how to do it.

How to tune a guitar.
Tuning the guitar is vital to sounding good. Here are some simple instructions that explain guitar tuning basics. The open strings of a guitar from the thickest to thinest are as follows:

E - the thickest or lowest sounding string is known as the 6th string
A - is the 5th
D - is the 4th
G - is the 3rd
B - is the 2nd
E - the thinest or highest is the 1st

For example
The A string....
Place the first finger of your left hand just behind the fifth fret on the bottom E string. That’s an A note. Keep your finger on that fret. Now pick the fifth and six strings in turn, gently adjusting the fifth string tuning peg until the two notes are the same.

How to tune your guitar to the right note. Link
I know is very basic but you may find it use full.

The strings are name as follows - from thickest to thinnest.

6th - E
5th - A
4th - D
3rd - G
2nd - B
1st - E

Tuning Steps

1. Using a pitch pipe, tuner or piano, tune your low string so it is the note E.

2. Place one of your fingers on the 5th fret (there is almost always a dot or inlay on this part of the fretboard) on the E string. That note should be the same note as the open A string. Turn the tuning peg of the open A until both strings sound the same.

3. Place one of your fingers on the 5th fret on the A string. That note should be the same note as the open D string. Turn the tuning peg of the open D until both strings sound the same.

4. Place one of your fingers on the 5th fret on the D string. That note should be the same note as the open G string. Turn the tuning peg of the open G until both strings sound the same.

5. Place one of your fingers on the 4th fret on the G string. That note should be the same note as the open B string. Turn the tuning peg of the open B until both strings sound the same. (Please not that this is the only time you change the fret to the 4th one.)

6. Place one of your fingers on the 5th fret on the B string. That note should be the same note as the open E string. Turn the tuning peg of the open E until both strings sound the same.

Well why not.Great players in action doing their thing.
If you look and listen a little closer you will see and hear acoustic,bass and the electric lead guitar.

Wikipedia,tells us that lead guitar is "Lead guitar refers to a the use of an electric guitar (or less commonly, an acoustic guitar) to perform melody lines and guitar solos in a popular music ensemble. In rock and metal bands, the lead guitar lines are usually supported by a second guitarist who plays rhythm guitar, which consists of accompaniment chords and riffs."

Can't argue with that. So why feature this. Well when Eric and JJ do their solos,see just how effective those solos are without blowing your ears off. Your attention is focused on that action.

They rose in the early days from fun loving bands,with dedicated small followings to Rock legends,playing huge concert hall and football stadiums. We know them as Rock Gods. So why did the guitar feature so heavily in the bands and in the tunes they made famous.
Back beat.'A back beat and you can't lose it!.
A back beat is a simple but highly effective way of making a song or tune live. It gets you toes tapping,makes you want to dance and makes you feel sooooo good.
The riff,is part of the energy in the song.This why a simple or easy riff is just so effective in making the tune live larger than other tunes.It stands out.

Beginners learning the guitar.

If you really want to learn to play the guitar,it involves,time,practice,practice and yes more practice.
I've looked at several sites for beginners and once you understand how to read music,tabs or hear music you want to play,they tell you practice is the key.
What do you want to do once you have learned to play?
Entertain friends and others or for self gratification.
Just play like your heroes or empresses girl or boy friends may be.
It's really up to you.
Once you have made that commitment, it would will be like anything else you want to do well.
Start by seeking out various sources of information,teachers or friends,books,CD/DVD and even downloads from the internet.
I love to here good music and anyone who takes the time and effort needed to become a good player has my respect.

Easy Christmas Song for Beginners

Keeping on with the basic and easy theme,I went looking for something that might fit the bill.
Over at Guitar Noise,David Hodge has several articles about such tunes. I thought this may be a goer.
From their article:-"

Silent Night is a classic three-chord song, using the first, fourth and fifth of whatever key you decide to play it in. I like to throw in the relative minor seventh at the end of the next to last line as well. Most people sing it in C major. For the solo guitarist, I would recommend playing in the key of G, which I've written out for you here:

There are three essential things to playing in solo fingerstyle - melody, bass and "accompaniment." You want the melody of the song to ring out, if for no other reason than letting people know what the song is! The bass and accompaniment, usually chord arpeggios, should enhance your presentation - adding color and texture."

Well it seems to fit the bill.

America's self-titled debut album was initially released in Europe with only moderate success and without the song "A Horse with No Name." Looking for a song that would be popular in both the United States and Europe, producer Ian Samwell helped the group to record the song and persuaded the Warner Brothers label to re-release the album with "Horse ..." included.

"A Horse with No Name" is played in the key of E minor with an acoustic guitar, bass guitar, and bongo drums. The only other chord is a D with added 6th and 9th notes. The 9th is usually the open top E string, the 6th the low E fretted on the second fret. This makes it a popular song for those who prefer 2 chord songs.

Before we can really understand Easy Guitar Tabs, we need to understand the guitar tab system. The tab system expresses guitar rhythm and lead parts which are presented in a visual, intuitive manner that does not require knowledge of standard musical notation. Nowadays tablature or tabs, has become the "language" for everyone wishing to play,just how to play guitar songs.
The details.
For a six-string guitar with standard guitar tuning begins with a staff of six lines. For example, the tablature for the shape of a C major chord looks like this:

E |-----x------|

On each line the number corresponds to the fret on the neck of the guitar to be played. At the top,Fret "0" means that string is played open.That is without any fingering. Now the fret one is the first fret from the headstock. Are you starting to understand that Guitar tablature or tabs, is done from high-to-low and left-to-right. Just like a musical staff. The bottom line on tablature corresponds to the "thick" E string. The E string is the one producing the lowest note. The low E string is not played here,( x) during a C major chord.

Today a little info about the word tab.

The correct name is Tablature,which is shortened to 'tab' or 'tabs'.
Its a form of musical notation that is written for musical instruments. These give the player the instructions on what to do and when. Rather than showing which notes to play,they show where to put the players fingers.
Tablature can be written for any type of fretted instrument,which is strung. Not just the guitar and bass. Other examples are, ukulele, mandolin, and banjo. Tabs can and are used for popular music and folk music too.

I may explore this a bit more.

Found this Happy Birthday guitar tab,which could possibly be the easiest guitar tab I have so far come across.
Yep! Happy Birthday.
Using just three strings,I quote:-
'Actually a guitar tab staff normally has six lines for the six strings on the guitar but we will only use the three first strings to play this melody.'
Yes I know its a bit ...err basic but if it someones birthday,wouldn't be great to just pick up the guitar and play it.

It’s an age-old argument. Use a pick or use your fingers?

According to David Hodge,there are many,many ways to do this.But practice is the key.

To start finger picking, it’s best to simply choose a chord and work out a pattern. Different chords use a different number of strings. On some chords you will strum all six strings, but on others only five or even four. So I suggest taking one chord of each. Let’s try G, C and D.

Here’s a rule of thumb : I tend to use my thumb on the three lower (bass, if you prefer) strings (the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th). I will then use my fingers in whatever manner feels most comfortable on the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd strings. If you’re just trying this for the first time (and even if you’re not) I would highly recommend trying to do the following:

3rd	index (i)
4th	thumb (T)

There are several ways to learn guitar tabs.The internet is one way with all the various resources it offers.
For example you could download a guitar course as in the blog resource box,at the page side.
Another is to do as I do and research various sites and content.
An alternative way would be to friend a relative or friend to teach you or I suppose just 'pick it up' as you go along and be self taught.This could be from watching your idle play and starting by copying the sounds.I suspect the latter would be frowned upon by respected players.

This part seems quite informative:-
If you have a four-stringed bass guitar, the bass guitar tabs will show four horizontal lines representing the four strings. The topmost string is the G string, followed by the D string, the A string, and lastly, the E string. If you see two numbers (one above the other) on one string, it indicates that the string is to be played simultaneously.

Bass guitar has 4 strings,well you learn something every day.

Today I would like to give a mention to David Hodge, who has written 147 articles over at Guitar Noise.
His articles are excellent for anyone interested in tabs of popular song.They are both informative and help the reader understand just how they should proceed.
I'm thinking about doing a short review of a particular favorite of mine,"House of the Rising Sun",which was done waaaaay back in the 1960's by the band,'The Animals'.

While finding easy guitar tabs to play is very fine,whats a good basic guitar to start out on?
Buying the latest model Fender or Strat may not be the best idea.Fine when your in the big time I suppose.
Looking around makes you realize there is a huge choice out here.
Picking out just one guitar is hard,but for a basic good sound instrument,a basic acoustic guitar would seem to be the best place to start.

Finding easy guitar tabs to get started, can be a bit frustrating. Probably the easiest is 'The Star' or to give its full name, Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

If you do not remember it or never herd it before it goes like this.
